The Ontario Government wants to see our municipalities cut their operating costs by four percent from what they were in 2018.
That should mean a savings for the local ratepayer, but at what cost when it comes to services provided by our towns and townships?
Brian Hunt, Mayor of Greater Madawaska Township, has been the spark-plug pulling a local group together to work it out.
Hunt says its called the Local Efficiency Group, or LEG.
Councillors and staff have been making the trek to Calabogie to go over each other’s budgets line-by-line and see what common tasks they can pool to save money.
The Province believes a consultant might be helpful, and they’re willing to pay for one to be hired.
All of the seven partners in Eastern Renfrew County have signed on in support, and the application is on its way to Queen’s Park.
