Until recently the Ontario Provincial Police would present an invoice for policing costs- which are paid from the local purse, with no explanation of why or how rates were going up.
That has changed a little bit in the last couple of years, but there are still some unexplained discrepancies.
Greater Madawaska Mayor Brian Hunt says policing charges are not fairly balanced in the township.
Hunt says it’s hard to convince the Solicitor-General to go with a new formula.
The Township has tried three times unsuccessfully to convince authorities, and now Queen’s Park won’t even hear them out- so Bonnechere Valley has booked time with the Minister at an upcoming conference, and will give its time over to Greater Madawaska so Hunt’s people can once again make their pitch.
