Algonquin College, Waterfront Campus, is an asset to the community. A sentiment shared around the table in Renfrew following the school’s presentation to council. Dr. Keltie Jones and Jamie Bramburger, both of the college, were on hand to speak to the school’s growth and contribution to the community. With roughly 40 students from Renfrew attending various programs, including the new PSW course to begin at the Bonnechere Manor in January, the college’s reach stretches beyond Pembroke. In fact, there are 19 students from Renfrew attending the Pembroke campus, including nine first year students and ten returning. In addition there are six students from Arnprior. Bramburger said the school has had a tremendous economic spin off for Pembroke with 20 full time programs, academic upgrading as well as apprenticeship and pre-apprenticehip programs. They’re introducing new programs this year as well, Computer Programmer, Development Service Worker and Environmental Management and Assessment.
