Police are going to release details of an investigation into a high end vehicle theft ring in Central and Eastern Ontario and Quebec. A press conference will be held in Ottawa today (Tuesday, December 17th) to discuss the five month long police investigation.
Back in September, Petawawa Toyota was a victim of such an operation, when seven vehicles were stolen in one night. Four or five other car dealerships in Ottawa and the Valley were also targeted with the thieves starting the cars electronically without the keys in under three minutes.
It hasn’t been confirmed if there’s a connection between this investigation and the Petawawa incident. The following month, the OPP broke up a car theft ring outside of Ottawa. Six stolen vehicles including two Toyotas, three Lexus’ and a Honda were recovered and three men from Quebec are facing a handful of charges. Police also seized vehicles from sea containers in Vancouver and Montreal area.
The OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau will outline results of the multijurisdictional investigation at 11:00 am this morning. We’ll bring you more details at that time.
