Goldie or also known as Bill Goldthorpe, a former hockey heavy weight is touring the Ottawa Valley this week. Goldthorpe has been called the wildest, meanest, most unpredictable player in hockey. The man who inspired Ogie Ogilthorpe from the 1970’s movie Slap Shot played for ten minor league teams and four World Hockey Association squads, racking up 1,132 penalty minutes in 194 games. He’s currently on tour with Liam Maguire promoting their new book titled “The Real Ogie! The life and legend of Goldie Goldthorpe”. Over the weekend, Goldie visited the dressing rooms of a few junior hockey teams such as the Pembroke Lumber Kings. He says he had some strong advice for the next generation.
Maguire and Goldthorpe dropped the puck ahead of the Lumber Kings game last night with the Carleton Place Canadians.
