There’s no more fire lane between the Royal Bank in Arnprior and the new apartment building going up next door.
On Monday night, town Council voted to do away with the Fire Lane status for the laneway that’s long been used as a shortcut between Daniel and John Streets.
Mayor Walter Stack says the decision to name it a fire lane may once have made sense, but no longer.
Municipal staff had tried to have the Fire Lane repealed, but fell one vote short at Council the last time it was on the table, despite indications from Chief Jeff Crawford that the designation was impractical.
Stack says now that the Fire Lane designation has been lifted, how the business owners resolve any issues of shared usage is a matter they can determine for themselves.
