The Warden’s Community Service Awards in Renfrew County have been presented. The awards were handed out at the county council meeting at the end of November.
The Killaloe Food Bank was honoured in the not-for-profit category for its work in the community since 1988. The food bank operates the first and third Thursday of the month from noon to 2:00pm at St. Andrew’s Church.
The Madawaska Coffee Company was the recipient in the business category. Since moving to the area in 2011 they’ve grown their operation, have built a new café with coffee sales expanding online to Germany, Poland and New Zealand. Over the past five years, they’ve helped developed a coffee kiosk in the St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Barry’s Bay, provided complimentary coffee at many events and supported local charities.
Brenda Grady of Whitewater Region was honoured with the individual award for her work as a volunteer during the spring flooding. Brenda helped lead a disaster relief centre housing over 100 military members for 40 days and nights serving over 5,000 meals that were donated to the relief centre kitchen.
The Warden’s Community Service Awards recognize and promote the outstanding efforts by community champions in Renfrew County. Each year, a review committee of the Warden, CAO and one member of County Council helped select the award recipients.
