First responders are on the scene of a barn fire on Whitewater Road in Laurentian Valley Township. The Laurentian Valley Fire Department has requested aid from North Algona Wilberforce and Petawawa firefighters and all three crews remain on the scene. The fire was reported Friday morning with strong wind gusts up to 55 km/hour. Firefighters are expected to remain on the scene for several more hours. Drivers are asked to avoid the stretch of Whitewater Road between Highway 17 and Greenwood Road until the scene is cleared. Firefighters on the scene confirmed there was no injuries at this time and livestock was not in the barn when the fire broke out. More details will be released as they become available.
