In the interest of helping keep everyone safe over the holidays, the OPP have launched the Festive RIDE campaign this weekend.
Police are aiming to keep alcohol and drug impaired drivers off the road, and the OPP say some of those decisions begin with you: don’t drink and drive; don’t do drugs and drive, and never combine the two.
The OPP heads into this year’s Festive RIDE campaign with enhanced tools that help police do their job.
Drivers can now be stopped for a breath sample, either during a RIDE check, or during any routine traffic stop, even without an officer suspecting you’ve consumed any alcohol.
The OPP also have approved drug screening equipment which can detect cannabis and cocaine in a driver’s saliva.
Same as with alcohol, motorists are obliged to submit to a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, (STST) and a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Evaluation.
