A milestone was celebrated Thursday in Arnprior, as there was a ground-breaking ceremony for the expansion of the Grove Nursing Home on Ida Street North.
The initiative has been several years in development, and will see the home expand to a 96-bed capacity from the current sixty.
Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, Minister of Long-Term Care, was on hand for the ceremony, which is said to be the first of the ground-breakings for the Ford Government’s planned 15 000 long-term care bed expansions across Ontario.
Eric Hanna, President and Chief Executive Officer of Arnprior Regional Health, says an area firm will be handling the construction, which should begin in just a few days.
The job has been awarded to McDonald Brothers Construction of West Carleton.
The total cost of the redevelopment project is estimated to be 29.2 million, and four million dollars is being raised locally.
Hanna says the residents should be moving into the new Grove just under two years from now.
