Renfrew resident Bonnie Keefe is still fighting to get stable housing for her daughter. At the end of October, she was sleeping in a tent and went on a hunger strike outside Renfrew Town Hall. Five days into the hunger strike Keefe fainted, was taken to hospital and was told by her doctors to go home. Keefe says she’s back on a hunger strike in hopes of getting someone to help her get her daughter into housing by the end of the week.
Her 36 year old daughter has special needs and since neither Bonnie or her husband are well enough to care for her, their daughter is homeless, bouncing between shelters and crisis centres. She says she’s talked to local MPPs to try and help, but there’s nothing out there. Keefe says there are 16,000 people with disabilities who can’t get access to housing because there’s no funding for group homes. She adds a respite care bed for her daughter would cost $318 a day. A go-fund-me-page has been set up to help support the family. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-bonnie-bring-jennifer-home
