A member of the Canadian Special Operations Regiment is facing four criminal code charges including Sexual Assault and Assault, in connection with an incident involving a civilian, which is alleged to have occurred on October 31st in Petawawa.
Corporal Kyle Smith, a Regular Force member based in Petawawa faces one count of Sexual Assault, one count of Assault, one count of unauthorized possession of ammunition and a storage regulation charge.
The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (CFNIS) opened its investigation November 1st and says it discovered the ammunition and weaponry during the course of executing a search warrant at his residence.
The CFNIS laid charges against Smith on November 3rd.
The matter is now in the hands of the civilian justice system and Smith is scheduled to appear in court in Pembroke on December 10th.
