A new health care service is available for family members of serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces.
As a part of a pilot project, military family members who are stationed in Petawawa and don’t have a family physician or nurse practitioner can now access one at home via secure video. The service is similar to a walk in clinic, but with pre-determined appointments.
Virtual doctors will be available to family members at least two years of age living from the Renfrew to Deep River area with valid OHIP cards. The Ontario Telemedicine Network and Calian Limited have partnered together to offer virtual doctors for military families struggling to find a physician.
Some of the health concerns that can be supported and treated include allergies, asthma, cold and flu, mental health, sexual health, reproductive health, skin concerns, vomiting, diarrhea, acid reflux, urinary tract infections, bites, stings and sinus infections. Prescriptions for controlled substances will not be provided.
Military families can access the program online a link is available here.
