76 year-old Stanley McBride has been sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually molesting teenagers at his cottage in South Algonquin Township back in the 1980’s. McBride, from Peterborough, was sentenced at the Pembroke courthouse on Thursday. In addition to jail time, he was given a lifetime ban on owning firearms. He was also ordered to provide a DNA sample for the sex offender registry. McBride had pleaded guilty to three counts of administering a noxious substance, six counts of sexual assault and two counts of attempted sexual assault. Some of the 11 complainants made impact statements ahead of the sentencing. The victims testified that they’ve experienced anxiety, some cases of depression and issues with trusting others over the 30 years since the incidents occurred. One even mentioned that he hasn’t forgiven himself for letting it happen. McBride was a teacher in Peterborough and befriended his victims before inviting them to his cottage near Algonquin Park on weekends. In closing, McBride stood and faced the victims, saying he hopes that one day they will be able to forgive him for his actions.
