Public high school teachers in Renfrew County will hold a strike vote close to the November 15th deadline. Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation Local District 28 President, Christian Sell, says they’ve been asked to mandate a strike vote.
Sell says the OSSTF is meeting with the province today (Thursday, October 24th) to try and negotiate a deal, but adds that’s unlikely to happen. He says the province is unwilling to engage in meaningful discussions on important issues. Sell says they are trying to work out a good strong deal for everyone.
He goes on to say that investments in education pay off in the long run. He says for every dollar you invest in education, you get $1.30 return and for every dollar cut, you can expect to pay $1.30 more in social assistance, services and needs down the road. The Local OSSTF President says you can see their proposal and learn more here.
