Some ATV’ers are facing charges following OPP spot checks on sections of the Algonquin Trail and Ottawa Valley Rail Trail Saturday October 12. The OPP SAVE unit, (Snow vehicle, ATV, and Vessel Enforcement/Education), say they stopped nearly 100 riders and laid three charges of failure to wear a proper helmet, two charges of no insurance, one charge of no numbered plate and one charge of failure to have a trail pass/trespassing. In addition to charges laid, they issued eight warnings for various infractions. Police say they also charged a hunter for failing to produce their possession and acquisition license. The SAVE unit focuses on high risk behaviours on waterways and trails, with year round patrols.
