Independent candidate Dan Criger is frustrated by that he was shut out of the YourTV debate for the Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke riding in the federal election.
David Feeley, Senior Manager at YourTV advises myFM News that the company’s rules are identical to the Federal leader’s TV debates, in that those appearing must be from a party represented in the House of Commons.
Cogeco says the interest of time is also part of the rationale for the rules established by Democratic Institutions Canada in 2018, which it follows.
Invitations were extended to David Ainsworth of the People’s Party of Canada, NDP nominee Eileen Jones-Whyte, incumbent Cheryl Gallant of the Conservatives, Ruben Marini of the Liberals, and Ian Pineau of the Green Party.
In addition to Criger, Robert Cherrin of the Veterans’ Coalition Party, Jonathan Davis Independent, Libertarian Stefan Klietsch, and Independent Dheerendra Kumar were excluded from Tuesday night’s televised debate.
