For the most part students in Renfrew County are above the provincial average for standardized testing. The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) test results were released on Wednesday. Over 80 percent of students in Grade 3 with the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board were at or above the provincial average when it comes to reading and writing. Roughly two thirds (68%) of those students met provincial math scores compared to only half of students in Grade 6. The older students excelled when it came to reading and writing with over 90% above the mark. Grade 9 applied math scores have dropped significantly, but still remain above the provincial average at 59%, while academic math scores remain in the low 90’s. One in four students with the catholic board was below the provincial standard for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test.
Looking at the public school board, students in Grade 3 were slightly above the average when it came to reading (75%), writing (72%) and math (59%). Students with the Renfrew County District School Board in Grade 6 were above the provincial average for reading (84%), but below in writing (77%) and math (45%). Students in Grade 9 scored below average on the EQAO math test with under half (43%) in applied at the provincial standard and three out of four students (77%) in academic classes at the mark. There was a 71% success rate for students who took the literacy test with the public school board.
