Police have seized upwards of 100 pot plants from a residence in Bonnechere Valley. On Wednesday (September 4th) the Killaloe OPP searched a home and property on Cormac Road where they found more than 100 cannabis plants, a large quantity of processed or partially processed cannabis, three prohibited weapons, several firearms and a motorcycle. Local police worked with the Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team and OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau when executing the search warrant. As a result of the investigation 37-year-old Joshua Sprague of Bonnechere Valley Township is facing three federal counts under the cannabis act for cultivation and possession. He is also facing over 20 other charges for possession of a restricted firearm, unsafe storage of ammunition, for having a crossbow, explosives and altering or destroying a vehicle identification number. The OPP also arrested and charged 38-year-old Erin Dietrich of Bonnechere Valley with possession and cultivation of cannabis along with 12 other counts relating to firearms and destroying VIN numbers. Both individuals remain in custody pending a court appearance in Renfrew on Monday (September 9th). Police say the focus of this operation is to dismantle organized crime groups, eliminate the illegal cannabis supply, remove illegal cannabis enterprises such as store fronts and online and target the proceeds of crime and assets.
