The first medical marijuana grow operation in the Ottawa Valley has been given approval to operate. Health Canada has given the green light to Glasshouse Botanics to start bringing plants on site. Several months ago, the cannabis production company held a job fair in Pembroke bringing in those interested in working in the cannabis industry. Whitewater Region Chief Administrative Officer, Robert Tremblay, says Glasshouse Botanics getting their cultivation license is great news for the community.
Tremblay says the municipality has also received notice of another application for the production of cannabis at Whitewater Industrial Park, right next to the greenhouses owned by Glasshouse Botanics. No further details were available about the newly proposed company Altarist Inc. at the council meeting on Wednesday night. Glasshouse Botanics plans to supply the underserved European market with medicinal marijuana in the fall of this year. They are on schedule to complete a 520,000 square foot greenhouse facility less than 15 minutes outside of Pembroke in Whitewater Region.
