Police, firefighters and paramedics worked together over the weekend to save an individual in distress. On Saturday afternoon (August 10th) the OPP responded to an incident on Mary Street in the City of Pembroke where a young man was threatening to take his life by jumping off the bridge. A section of Mary Street between Church Street and MacKay Street was closed for a couple of hours as emergency officials worked together to save the individual.
The incident over the weekend serves as a reminder that there is always support and help available. In Pembroke residents can take advantage of services such as the Robbie Dean Family Counselling Centre, the Bernadette McCann House or services offered at the Pembroke Regional Hospital (for Renfrew and Arnprior – the Renfrew Victoria Hospital and Arnprior and District Regional Hospital).

Mental Health Services of Renfrew County and Pathways Alcohol and Drug Treatment Services work together to provide emergency department staff access to a counselor. They come directly to the the Pembroke Regional Hospital (for Renfrew & Arnprior – Renfrew Victoria Hospital and Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital) to speak with the patient or will consult them over the phone.

The Robbie Dean Family Counselling Centre offers a wide variety of services including suicide prevention, crisis clinics, crisis de-escalation, short term counseling, education, training and referrals.
The Phoenix Centre serves clients under the age of 17 years of age who live or attend school in Renfrew County. The Phoenix Center offers walk-in counseling for immediate assistance for youth and children across the county no referral necessary.
The Bernadette McCann House is a short term crisis intervention shelter for abused women and their children. They also provide 24 hour confidential telephone support with outreach services available.
