Clean-up efforts continue around Golden Lake after severe thunderstorms rolled through the area earlier this week. Warning Preparedness Meteorologist with Environment Canada, Geoff Coulson, says winds in the Deacon area were upwards of 110km per hour with between 10 and 20 cottages and homes sustaining serious damage. Over 7,000 customers were without power during the storm. Coulson says seasonal properties may not be as structurally sound as a permanent residence. He adds you’re safest near the middle of the building and says try to hide under something sturdy like a table if you can.
Coulson says the rest of the week is looking fairly quiet with lots of sunshine. The weather specialist says we can expect above seasonal temperatures for the month of August and didn’t rule out the possibility of another heat wave or two. Coulson is asking anyone who may have pictures or videos from the storm Monday night to send them to ONstorm@Canada.ca. At this point meteorologists are unsure if it was a tornado or damaging burst of wind that passed through the area.
