Union says members on picket line are “standing strong” in contract demands

There appears to be no end in sight to a strike by Local 639 of the Union of National Defence Employees. Close to 80 cleaners have been walking the picket line at the gate to Garrison Petawawa since Thursday, and will be there for the foreseeable future. The union and its employer, GDI Integrated Facility Services, failed to come to an agreement during talks last week. Sharon DeSousa, PSAC Ontario Regional Executive Vice-President tells myFM news that members are fighting to keep the contract that they were promised.

 

DeSousa says they haven’t heard from GDI on a request to go back to the bargaining table. However, the union says it’s ready to negotiate.
