Residents in Horton Township can expect a solution for recycling collection starting the second week of August. Starting Monday August 12th, recyclables will be collected every week with co-mingled materials collected one week and paper and fibre the next. Plastic bags are no longer accepted in your recycling. Town staff have secured Canada Waste to do the work over a six month contract and changes to the recycling schedule will be sent out in the next tax bills. The yellow dates on your existing calendar are for garbage and co-mingled pick up, while the blue dates will indicate garbage and paper/fibre pick up. For the week of August 12th, residents are asked to have co-mingled recycling materials and waste curbside by 7am to ensure collection. For residents in Horton Township on the Ottawa River side of Highway 17, collection is on Monday. If you live on the Renfrew side of the highway your collection will fall on Tuesday, and if there’s a holiday everything is pushed back one day. On Sunday June 23rd, Beaumen Waste Management closed its doors permanently leaving many Renfrew County municipalities in search of a solution. Until curbside recycling collection starts back up in Horton Township, residents are able to take materials to the landfill at 2082 Eady Road, free of charge.
