A team of midwives has joined the obstetrics department
at the Pontiac Hospital. Starting today, the Outaouais Integrated Health and Social Services Center
says the midwives will ensure continuity of obstetric services
within the community.
The move covers a temporary shortage of nurses. In addition to assisting with birthing, the midwifery team
will provide postpartum follow-up.
During the roughly five week long period, a midwife will be on call
in the Pontiac. Their duties will include conducting an initial telephone
evaluation with moms-to-be to determine whether they need to come to
the hospital.
The hospital says at any time, a general practitioner will be available if a situation requires they intervene.
