The Township of Whitewater Region has taken steps to clear the paperwork out of the way for flood-affected residents looking to rebuild and/or preserve their existing homes and cottages.
Municipal Planner Ivan Burton says a matter already on the Township’s agenda concerning the licencing of trailers is likely to be expanded to allow residents in the process of rebuilding on their land to occupy trailers on a temporary basis while they do so.
That issue returns to the Council table tonight.
Burton says on July 3rd, Township Council amended two historic bylaws covering the flood plains in the former Ross and Westmeath Townships.
Residents in those areas will be able to raise dwellings above the heights allowed when those bylaws were passed in the 1990s.
