They’re celebrating 30 years of forging friendships, creating memories and participating in social justice. The Dominican Republic Experience, which sees students from the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board traveling abroad each year, marked the milestone with a gathering in June at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Hall. The board says it was an atmosphere of celebration with a sense of gratitude among those who came together to share a common and profound experience. Grey Sisters of the Immaculate Conception Dominican Republic were special guests, along with the priests and Sisters, student participants and parents, principals and teachers, members of the RCCDSB Board and administration team, organizers and supporters. The DRE began in 1989 with a team of five, and has since seen more than 400 students take part in missions to the Dominican Republic.
