The Province is proceeding with the next steps to extend the twinning of Highway 17 westward.
The four-laning of the highway through Renfrew County was first promised by Ontario Premier Leslie Frost in 1958.
Today, MPP John Yakabuski outlined the remaining steps to four-lane the portion of the road from just outside Arnprior to just past Renfrew.
There will be four new interchanges involved; the first of which will be the Calabogie Road exit, at County Highway 508.
The project will end just past Bruce Street in Renfrew, and involves a second bridge over the Bonnechere River.
Officials say expanding the road will expand business and residential opportunities and improve safety along the 22.5 kilometre stretch of highway.
The MPP won’t put a dollar estimate on what the largest infrastructure project to be undertaken in Renfrew County will cost.
