Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Ottawa Valley. Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and into the evening that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Wind gusts up to 100km/hour and heavy downpours are possible. Environment Canada says heavy downpours can cause flash flooding and water pooling on roads and reminds you that lightening kills Canadians every year. You’re reminded when thunder roars, to go indoors. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn vehicles. Severe thunderstorms are also capable of producing tornadoes. A watch is issued when conditions are favourable for severe weather to occur. Environment Canada may upgrade the severe thunderstorm watch to a warning if necessary. Stay with Oldies 107.7 for the latest updates.
