While the amount of snow that fell this winter in the Valley may have had its consequences with Spring Flooding, its economic impact on snowmobile tourism was substantial.
A report prepared for the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) says the economic impact for the District 6 region, which contains most of Renfrew County was nearly $100 million.
In fact, nearly 12 percent of all snowmobile trips in the Province this winter took place within our region.
Since these studies began five years ago, revenues from the sport have grown by 612 million dollars to 853 million across Ontario.
Snowmobilers contributed 665.7 million dollars in all categories of spending to the Province’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and supported over 6400 full-time jobs.
When you add everything up, the OFSC concludes Snowmobiling is a 1.6 billion dollar industry across Ontario.
