It was a scary wake up call for residents of an apartment building in east end of Pembroke this morning. The fire department says it was called to the building on Noik Street around 3:45 this morning. Smoke could be seen coming from a lower level apartment window and fire officials learned that some tenants were still inside the building. Firefighters were able to help the occupants get out safely. Fire fighters are still on scene ensuring the blaze is fully extinguished and determining the cause of the fire. Traffic is not expected to be disrupted. There are roughly 12 tenants displaced and although there is minimal damage with other areas of the building, due to smoke, it is unknown when they might be allowed to return to their apartments. The Red Cross and Victim Services have been called in to help those in need.
