The town of Almonte has a NASA connection. Eight students from Holy Name of Mary Catholic school wowed aerospace engineers with their Cubes in Space idea and were in Virginia last month to watch a rocket launch. Erin Fitzpatrick, their teacher, says the students applied for the project as a team.
The students placed probiotics in their cube, it was launched into space and returned to the ocean a few minutes later. NASA scientists examined the contents before returning the cube to the students who sent it back to the lab that provided the probiotics. The lab examined the contents and recorded how radiation and gravity as well as other factors of space impacted the contents of the cube.
