Renfrew’s mayor-elect Jason Legris says the community’s support following last Monday’s municipal election has been both humbling and encouraging.
Legris says it wasn’t until the following day that his decisive victory began to feel real. He’s thanking everyone who put their confidence in him and what he considers to be a capable team of councillors as they prepare to take on the next term.
Legris and the incoming council will spend the next two weeks going through orientation, with town staff bringing them up to speed on municipal procedures and ongoing files. That preparation will lead into what is expected to be a crucial year for Renfrew’s budget.
The new council will also have an opportunity to bring Renfrew’s priorities directly to provincial leaders during January’s Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference, where Legris says they’ll be looking to advance issues important to the community.
Economic development is another early priority. Legris is already looking at getting councillors out into the community to meet with local industry leaders and better understand what businesses need to grow and succeed in Renfrew.
Renfrew next council will officially be sworn in on November 17. Legris says residents will be able to reach him at town hall once he takes office, but he’s also encouraging people to contact him with questions or concerns in the meantime.
