Horton’s outgoing council is wrapping up its term with a significant investment in the community’s fire protection.
Mayor Daina Proctor and fellow councillors joined Fire Chief Allan Cole on Friday, October 30, to officially welcome the Horton Fire Department’s new tanker truck with a symbolic push-in ceremony at the community fire hall.
Manufactured by Canadian company Battleshield, the new vehicle is an important addition to the township’s firefighting fleet.
Proctor says the purchase represents the payoff from years of responsible budgeting and planning.
It was among the first major items discussed when the current council took office in 2022, and is now one of its final accomplishments before the term ends.
The investment also gives firefighters greater confidence in the equipment they rely on. Proctor says concerns had been growing about the dependability of the department’s previous tanker, making the new vehicle an important upgrade for those tasked with protecting the community.
While the hope is that Tanker 9717 never has to leave the fire hall, Proctor says it’s reassuring to know it will be ready when the need arises.
