Kate Windle is looking to return to Renfrew’s council chambers to set a budget that has Renfrew living within its means.
Windle, a barbershop owner and former councillor over three separate terms, says Renfrew not only needs to bring in more industry and employment to drive up revenue for the town but also needs to bring town operating costs back into the black so as not to strain what should be its emergency fund.
She is also concerned with maintaining what the town currently owns, including proactive and preventative infrastructure repairs to avoid costly problems. That concern also extends to holding on to important assets like Renfrew Hydro and Renfrew Power Generation, as she is skeptical the cash up front doesn’t make up for the cost of losing control to a larger power company.
Windle would also take a strong stance against provincial Bill 60, which she says would take control of water and wastewater from municipalities and possibly leave Renfrew with another major burden.
Other notable platform policies include finding a solution for vacant buildings within the downtown core and fighting for decorum with council chambers, something she says gives the town a negative perception with potential newcomers.
Kate Windle is one of ten candidates running for six at-large council seats in Renfrew, alongside Kyle Cybulski, Hayley Heaslip, Bruce Rozycki, John McDonald, Sandi Heins, Clint McWhirter, Guy Longtin, Andrew Dick, and Scott Miller.
