The Renfrew Wolves have an off day from practice and play tomorrow and the team wants to use their free time to give back to the community that supports them.
Defenceman Toby Almstedt and Forward Gage Maxfield spend a lot of their time at MacLaren Orchards on Burnstown Road helping out with the day-to-day operations.
Both Almstedt and Maxfield wanted to utilize their connection to help give back to the community. So they came up with the idea to bring their fellow teammates out to pick apples for the Renfrew & District Food Bank.
Maxfield says it’s just something they want to do.
Almstedt and Maxfield have experience in rural communities and agriculture and as Almstedt says, they are looking to share their expertise with the team, teaching them how to pick apples properly.
Players from the Wolves will be heading out tomorrow to gather as many apples as they can, while making sure not to leave the trees barren. Then they will be bundling them up and taking them down to donate.
