The SPCA and Humane Society Renfrew County Animal Centre has a record number of animals in its care.
In an effort to try and find loving homes for as many of those animals as possible, the organization is going to reduce adoption fees for two days this week.
Fall Adoption Days on Friday and Saturday will see fees cut by 15 per cent on adult cats, dogs and rabbits.
The Ontario SPCA has more than 650 animals at its 13 animal centres across the province, which is the most they’ve seen at one time in the past five years.
The increase is due partly to the influx of animals from Northern Ontario, following the wildfires this summer. However, there has also been an increase in requests from local families looking to re-home their pets.
“Every animal deserves the chance to find a loving home, and right now, there are more animals than usual waiting for that chance,” says Sonya Reichel, Vice President of Operations with the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society. “Fall Adoption Days are an opportunity for people to open their hearts and homes to an animal in need, while helping us make space for other animals who may need our support.”
Dogs and cats adopted from the Ontario SPCA are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. They also go home with food from Royal Canin, as well as other adoption perks, to help ensure a smooth transition into their new home.
