This weekend, the town of Renfrew is set to continue on the journey Terry Fox began with his Marathon of Hope all the way back in 1980.
Runners, walkers, and rollers will gather at the myFM Centre on Sunday, September 20, to take part in the annual Terry Fox run, adding to the impressive amount of money that the community has raised in support of cancer research since the event began 46 years ago, according to co-organizer Patti Leclaire.
Fellow organizer Dan Donohue says pretty much everyone knows someone who has had experience with cancer, whether it’s a family member, friend, or co-worker, and supporting them in their fight with the illness is as simple as showing up at the starting line.
Registration will take place at 10:00 am Sunday before the run heads down the Millennium Trail at 11:00 am. Leclaire adds that those taking part can add to their current fundraising progress ahead of the event online.
Renfrew residents have already pulled together more than $11,000 of this year’s $14,400 goal ahead of Sunday’s run.
