The union backing local social workers says that deals across the province are raising the floor for workers supporting some of our community’s most vulnerable people.
OPSEU Local 472 and Community Living Renfrew County South were able to come to a settlement earlier this week, ending more than a hundred days of picketing in Renfrew, Arnprior, and the surrounding communities.
In an update on negotiation efforts on behalf of nearly 4,000 Ontario workers, OPSEU says recent deals at the local level have secured a number of wins, including improvements to wages, pensions, and working conditions, that will keep experienced workers on the job.
“Every strong agreement helps set a higher standard for the next group of workers at the bargaining table,” says JP Hornick, OPSEU/SEFPO President. “Using our collective power to win better for workers and for the people who rely on these services—that’s what Worth Fighting For is all about.”
Details surrounding the deal between CLRCS and OPSEU Local 472 have not been released. However, both parties have said that they remain focused on the continuity of care for supported families and individuals.
