Yes, this Thursday at the myFM Centre will in fact be Renfrew’s first roadeo.
Some of the best municipal equipment operators from across the region will be in town to take on the Renfrew County Road Supervisors Association’s Safety Truck Roadeo, manoeuvring through an obstacle course that Renfrew’s Director of Engineering & Asset Management, Andrea Bishop, says will put the skills they use all year round in the spotlight.
Bishop adds that bringing the competition to Renfrew for the first time ever is particularly exciting, as guests will be welcome to bring a chair or blanket and spread out along Ma-te-Way Park for an up-close look at the training and expertise needed to safely handle a community’s snow plows, dump trucks, and loaders.
The winner of Thursday’s event will earn the title of the RCRSA’s “Mr. Plow” before moving on to represent the region at the Association of Ontario Road Supervisors’ provincial Roadeo in Owen Sound on Wednesday, September 23.
The obstacle course will require a large portion of the parking lot adjacent to the Ma-te-Way Park ball diamonds to close for the day. Arena users will have full access to the other two parking lots on site, with overflow spaces available near the dog park.
