If you’ve been holding on to a bag of dead batteries or some old paint, your last chance to safely get rid of it this year is coming up.
The local Household Hazardous Waste Depot at Renfrew’s Bruce Street Landfill will close for the season on Saturday, August 29, marking one final week for neighbouring communities to safely dispose of items that cannot be thrown into their regular garbage collection.
It’s a service that is free for residents of Renfrew, as well as the neighbouring communities of Arnprior, McNab/Braeside, Horton, Admaston/Bromley, Greater Madawaska, Whitewater Region, and Addington Highlands.
The depot will be open between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm this upcoming Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, as well as from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, accepting items including:
- Paints: All types of paint, stains, varnish, spray paint, etc.
- Solvents: Turpentine, disinfectants, household cleaners, bleach, oven and drain cleaners, furniture strippers, ammonia, etc.
- Herbicides, pesticides, insecticides, weed killer, etc.
- Pool cleaners
- Propane Tanks
- Batteries: Small Standard, Button, Small Tool, Car, and Boat Batteries.
- Automotive Fluids: Used Oil, Brake Fluid, Gasoline, Antifreeze, etc.
- Oil filters
- Oil containers (empty or containing oil)
- Light Bulbs and Tubes (all types except PCB ballasts)
- Fire Extinguishers
- Aerosols
- Non-refillable pressurized containers: Acetylene, refrigerant, propane, helium & CO₂ cylinders.
- Pharmaceuticals/Medication (No needles)
- Mercury Bulb Thermostats and Switches
