Opportunities in the local job market are expected to shift as the Ottawa Valley looks ahead to the fall.
Ashley Cavanagh, the employment services manager at ontrac’s Arnprior site, says that while much of the summer seasonal work, like construction, landscaping, contracting, agriculture, tourism, and hospitality, will continue right until the frost starts, employers will soon begin to wind those positions down.
However, other job seekers can also look forward to new opportunities in other fields.
Not only does ontrac offer people facing layoffs opportunities to retrain for new careers through the Better Jobs Ontario program, but they also provide a full suite of services to help them find the next step in their employment journey.
Cavanagh adds that employers often come to contracts themselves to find eager applicants, with their large-scale job fairs connecting as many as 40 businesses and organizations to the potential workforce typically in late February or early March and smaller, one-business fairs scattered throughout the year.
