With only days to go before the deadline to register to run in this fall’s municipal elections, several local mayors are running unopposed.
In Bonnechere Valley Township, no one has yet put their name forward to run against Incumbent Mayor Jennifer Murphy.
In neighbouring North Algona Wilberforce, there are no candidates for mayor at all. Incumbent Mayor James Brose is not seeking re-election.
In Whitewater Region, Incumbent Neil Nicholson is running unopposed.
In Madawaska Valley, only one person has declared they’re running for mayor. Mary Blank is the only listed candidate, while the current mayor David Shulist has decided to run for a council seat.
There is no shortage of interest in Renfrew’s mayoral race, with five people so far declared.
Local residents have until 2pm on Friday to put their papers in to run in the October 26th municipal elections.
