Hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding for five Ottawa Valley projects has been announced by the provincial government.
On Wednesday, July 29th, Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP Billy Denault announced that five projects in his riding have been selected as recipients for the latest allocation of Ontario Trillium Foundation money.
The funding is being allocated as follows:
- The Arnprior Curling Club was selected to receive $200,000 to replace outdated ice-making equipment.
- The Upper Ottawa Valley Ringette Association has received $14,700 to purchase essential equipment as they expand their membership.
- The Township of Bonnechere Valley is getting $10,200 to install an accessible beach mat and picnic tables at Rotary Beach and Park.
- The Township of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards is receiving $200,000 to restore Round Lake Rink.
- The Township of South Algonquin is receiving $54,400 to make five outdoor restrooms fully accessible for people with disabilities and mobility issues.
The total amount being distributed across the valley sits at $479,300.
Bonnechere Valley Mayor and Renfrew County Warden Jennifer Murphy, Killaloe-Hagarty-Richards Mayor Dave Mayville and South Algonquin Mayor Ethel LaValley were all in attendance, alongside representatives from the Upper Ottawa Valley Ringette Association and the Arnprior Curling Club.
Murphy expressed her gratitude for the grant on behalf of Bonnechere Valley, saying the accessible beach mat that will be purchased with the funding has been on the cards for her team for several years.
Mayville also thanked Denault for his continued commitment to supporting the many small and rural communities that make up his riding.
LaValley said South Algonquin has received several other provincial grants in recent years, and as a small township, they appreciate the support.
According to a press release issued by Denault’s office after the announcement, the funding is part of the provincial government’s long-term plan to invest in community infrastructure, support local organizations and ensure economic prosperity and growth.
