Officials with Greater Madawaska township confirm that crews with the Ministry of Natural Resources are responding to the blaze.
They add that there is no current threat to the public, nearby homes, or infrastructure. Residents are being asked to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to work safely and efficiently.
Residents may also notice smoke in the area as efforts to suppress the fire continue.

The MBC Newsroom is monitoring a small wildfire burning between White Lake and the Madawaska River, not far from the Burnstown area.
Ontario’s wildfire monitor lists the blaze as an official active fire that is not under control.
The fire is estimated at point-one hectares, with lightning listed as the suspected cause.
The latest update came early Wednesday evening, at that time, no official perimeter had been published.
The fire is about 16 kilometres from Renfrew, 23 kilometres from Arnprior, and 34 kilometres from both Mississippi Mills and Almonte.
