Environment Canada says thunderstorms could spread across the Ottawa Valley in a hurry Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The Ottawa Valley has been placed under a severe thunderstorm watch as conditions in the area are favourable for the rapid development of stormy weather, which could also come with wind gusts of 90 to 110 kilometres per hour and large hail.
Utility outages and significant damage to property, buildings, and trees are possible. Large hail can also cause significant damage and injury.
The region is also under an air quality warning, as smoke from wildfires in Northern Ontario will cause poor air quality and reduced visibility into Thursday for some areas.
The weather agency is advising the public to limit time outdoors, consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor activities and events, and wear a well-fitting respirator type mask to reduce exposure to fine particles in the smoke.
Residents may experience mild and common symptoms like eye, nose, and throat irritation, headaches, or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms can include wheezing, chest pains, or a severe cough. Seek immediate medical assistance if you think you are having a medical emergency.
Protect your indoor air from wildfire smoke by keeping windows and doors closed as much as possible, and prioritize keeping cool.
