Communities in the Renfrew area can expect to see some younger faces joining local police over the next two months.
Renfrew OPP Constable Tina Hunt says the detachment kicks off their Youth in Policing initiative this summer, bringing in a pair of students interested in policing to take part in an eight-week position focused on teamwork, leadership, and community engagement.
Constable Hunt and the local OPP detachment worked quickly to finish interviews by the start of July with the anticipation of welcoming the successful applicants to the team in what will be the program’s debut in Renfrew and Arnprior.
On top of helping with administrative duties, the Youth in Policing Initiative also offers students professional development through training, goal setting, and exposure to the OPP’s specialized units. However, their biggest impact may end up being through their interaction with the public.
The eight-week assignment is expected to wrap up at the end of August.
