A massive new addition to Renfrew’s Canada Day celebrations will be happening inside the myFM Centre.
The Bonnechere of Algonquin First Nation will debut their Gathering of Nations Expo as part of the town’s festivities in Ma-te-Way Park on Wednesday, June 1, as event coordinator Amanda Perrier welcomes the community to peruse the 60 vendors who will set up shop on the arena floor when Canada Day gets underway that morning.
BAFN says the purpose for the artisan fair is to serve as a tribute to the rich Indigenous culture in our local and national identity, with everything from beaded jewellery and wooden designs to ceramics, leather, and furs on sale.
The day will also feature storytime inside the BAFN Indigenous Cultural Centre’s medicine wheel, which the First Nation hopes will be another step towards more programming at their office.
Community members and guests are welcome to browse the wares on sale anytime between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm on Canada Day, with gift bags available for the first few people to drop in.
