Firefighters across the Ottawa Valley have some new tools in the fight against wildfires.
GlobalMedic, a not-for-profit relief charity, recently donated wildland firefighting skid units to multiple Renfrew County fire detachments, including in Horton, McNab/Braeside, and Madawaska Valley.
The self-contained units come equipped with a gasoline-powered pump and 1,000-litre tank and are designed to be easily loaded into the back of a truck, ATV, or trailer to allow for firefighters to douse grass, brush, and wildland fires in remote or hard-to-access areas.
All three departments say they are grateful to GlobalMedic for their support, with Madawaska Valley Fire Chief Corwin Quade also sending thanks to Renfrew County Paramedic Commander Steve Osipenko, who facilitated the donation.
