Renfrew’s accessible parking will get a makeover with the help of some dedicated volunteers.
Town Council has directed staff to partner with Renfrew County Voices as they give 29 accessible parking spaces along the downtown core and nearby municipal parking lots a fully blue paint job to enhance visibility and awareness along one of the community’s busiest roads.
Councillor Andrew Dick originally floated the idea of partnering with the not-for-profit last year, saying that they are eager to help as part of their support for adults with developmental disabilities.
There were a few concerns with how Renfrew County Voices would be involved. Reeve Peter Emon pointed out that someone other than the town’s contracted line painter on the road could lead to a workplace safety issue.
Emon suggested that volunteers could paint the adjacent curbs, which is included in the scope of the project. Acting CAO Eric Withers believes that it’s a compromise that will allow the group to be safely engaged.
Current estimates, which only account for the on-street accessible parking spots, put the value of the project at $4,375, which would be funded through the town’s road maintenance budget.
